Sailboats on the Bay, 1983, original 22”x 28” oil on canvas.
The energy of the season changing from summer to fall is illustrated in this original painting. Stettner and his son were spending the day on boardwalk near their hometown in Texas when an early fall northern started blowing in. The energy was undeniable. That energy inspired this abstract original oil painting of the sailboats re-entering the Bay as the knots suddenly increased. In this contemporary abstract painting, again, Stettner was inspired by Paul Cezanne’s Cubism, geometric - illustrating shapes and forms having more mathematic than organic design. Geometric designs are typically made with straight lines or shapes from geometry. This painting project juxtapositions the harmony of the colors and lines to the swift moving art image, barely contained on the canvas.
